Design your own Personalised Tshirt!

October 6th, 2008 · 28 Comments

Update: Jai [Pringoo], Priyanka [inkfruit], Ravi [DilSeBol], Ankit [iTasveer], Manish [Picsquare] have all got in touch with me and commented on the blog too. Still awaiting a reply from the rest of them.

I been planning to get some Tshirts printed with stuff for a while now but been skeptical if the site providing the service will be able to do a good job.Β  So i been asking around for the indian websites which print on tshirts. Listed are a few of them…

http://www.inkfruit.com/
Price range: Flat Price Rs 349/-
Sadly you cant upload your pictures and get them printed. Have to choose from the designs which have won the competition.
Customer Service was prompt and 24/7.

http://www.itasveer.com/
Price range: Starts from Rs399 + VAT/CST
Woa if you to pay Rs 150 extra for additional black print.
Site has a page where all the pricing info are mentioned including shipping cost.
Customer service via Email only.

http://www.myntra.com
Price range: Starts from Rs99-Rs 499 + VAT/CST
Customer Service was prompt and 24/7.

http://www.pringoo.com/
Price range: Starts from Rs 399 (VAT/CST included)
Customer Service is not 24/7.
Free Shipping if ordered by registered post.

http://www.picsquare.com/
Price range: Flat Price Rs 399/- (VAT/CST included)
Site has a page where all the pricing info are mentioned. Can track your order online!
Customer Service is not 24/7.

http://www.xtees.com/
Price range: Starts from Rs 299 + VAT/CST
Extremely messy website.

http://www.zoomin.com
Price range: Starts fromRs 350
Shipping flat Rs 25.

http://www.dilsebol.com/
Price range: Starts from Rs 299 + VAT/CST
Customer Service is not 24/7.

All these sites allow you to upload pictures. Apart from tshirts the sites also allow you to print on mugs/calendars/mousepads/coasters/plates/keychains…

File upload formats: .JPG, .JPEG or .PNG

All websites accept credit cards and some also have COD (Cash on Delivery) facility.

Shipping is EXTRA! Starts from Rs 30 to Rs 50. But for COD charges are extra.

All the sites give Discount on Bulk orders. But figured that it would be still cheaper to go to one of the local guys if you have a need for a large number.

But these sites makes sense if you want one or a few tshirts to be custom printed.

What surprised me the most was the Customer Service of some of the sites was prompt! and they replied on a Sunday! impressed…

Feedback for these sites:

  • Have a Pricing page upfront and mention all the Taxes + Shipping Costs. Its irritating to know about these prices when i have almost bought the item and at the last stage you tell me about it.
  • Mention the Customer Service number/email Upfront too.

I am going to write to all these sites if they have anything to add… Lets see how many of them reply back πŸ™‚

Would love to know if any of you have used any of these services and what your experience has been.

Cheers!

    Hi Kunal,

    Thanks for mentioning Inkfruit!
We have a policy where we exchange t-shirts ordered online, if you are not satisfied with it. This has not happened with any of our customers so far! :p Yippeee…

Ah, thanx for the list! I have been looking for such things myself! No one has the T-shirts I want πŸ˜•

Hope they dont charge very high for XL πŸ˜› and also hope that shipping in HYD is also as less as you mentioned.

    Gotta try it out!

    cool stuff!

    Hi Kunal,

Thanks. Soon we are going to launch t-shirts in different styles and colors. They tuned.

    Cheers

    Neat list.

itasveer is the cleanest site to work around – loads of options, fairly easy to navigate through.
Wish xtees would be less congested. Likewise for myntra, took me almost three minutes to figure they had other features (mugs, seatshirts, etc).

Specifically about DilSeBol, we are focused on providing great range in Apparels and we offer the most choices for users in this. We have also planned an upgrade in the site – both the structure of the design application and the overall site itself. This should address some of the loading issues that are currently experienced on slower connections. On normal broadband connection, on IE, our site is optimised to load fairly quickly

    Hi Kunal,
Responding to your email, well, Inkfruit is a brand for awesome tees and a platform for individual designers to showcase their talents, get acclaim, prizes, cash and have fun. We are not really looking at customizing t-shirts as of now.

  • 9 Priyanka // Oct 6, 2008 at 6:54 pm

…and so no plans for allowing users to upload photo’s and print them on tees (thought I might not have been clear in my last comment) πŸ™‚

  • 10 Nishit Shah // Oct 6, 2008 at 11:36 pm

Had checked out most of the stores mentioned above and finally decided to give PringOO a try. I had made a customized T-Shirt @ PringOO of Ubuntu. The print was awesome and it looked like a real one sold @ Ubuntu Stores, but am not too happy with the quality of the T-Shirt after few washes. If it was a bit better I could have shown off wearing it few more times to fellow geeks πŸ™‚

    Hey Kunal, great list!

Just a heads up, the XL size of the Wrangler t-shirts in myntra are quite smaller than regular XL size. Its more like a medium or a large.

I dunno about the other regular t-shirts they offer.

First of all thanks for taking interest in this business model and time taking to review sites involved in this model.

I will comment on your post here by asking you only one question:

    1) What does Starbucks and Dunkin Donut known for?

A> Starbucks is a coffee shop chain, know for its coffee. Coffee and related beverage is their core competency/business. They sell other stuffs too in their shop such as chocolate, pastry, donuts, muffin etc.

Where Dunkin Donut is known for selling donuts. Donut is their core competency/business. But they also have coffee, muffin and egg n cheese in their shop to sell.

So can we compare these two companies (as a same business) as coffee and donut are same in both the shop? Of course not isn’t it?

Donut is a value added product in Starbuck, and they would not put much effort or varieties in it to sell. As their primary product is coffee and they are known for that.

Similarly coffee is a value added product in Dunkin Donut, and they would not put much effort or varieties in it to sell. As their primary product is donut and they are known for that.

So now you suggest me, is it a fair comparison of dunkin donut and starbuck for donut or for coffee πŸ™‚

Since personalized t-shirt is our core competency so I will take you through some detail which you may have not noticed as these sites as they on purpose bring in light in order to hide the inability of being leader in personalized t-shirt.

    Lets start….

    1) Read at http://www.itasveer.com/prodTee.do
Our T-Shirts are available in four standard adult sizes. At present, only white colored t-shirts are available. The material is a dual-weave of 100% polyester on the outside and 100% cotton on the inside.
    Conclusion
    ———-
No. of t-shirt color: 1 (white)
    Style: 1 (basic round neck)
Do you wear polyester t-shirt πŸ™‚
T-shirt is merely a value added product and not a core business

    2)Read at http://www.picsquare.com/forward.do?page=product&next=photo-tshirts-for-men
Material – Cotton-Polyester (50-50) mixed fabric for added comfort
    Color Options – Pure white
    Conclusion
    ———-
No. of t-shirt color: 1 (white)
    Style: 1 (basic round neck)
Do you wear polyester t-shirt πŸ™‚
T-shirt is merely a value added product and not a core business

3)inkfruit.com ? What about it? IS it a personalized t-shirt site? Your blog post heading says ‘Design your own Personalized Tshirt!’
I can buy t-shirts at rediff and bluebus tee also.

    4) Read at
    http://www.dilsebol.com/design/tshirt/
    Conclusion
    ———-
    No. of t-shirt color: 5
    Style: 1 (basic round neck)
    Thats all??

    5) Read at
    http://www.zoomin.com/T-Shirt
No. of t-shirt color: 1 (white)
    Style: 1 (basic round neck)
They use sublimation method of printing that again uses polyester t-shirt as that technology is not capable printing on t-shirt.
Do you wear polyester t-shirt πŸ™‚
T-shirt is merely a value added product and not a core business

    6)Read at http://www.xtees.com/digital/mtshirt/index.htm
Ask them if they can print on cotton, only condition is that it should hold printing color after 5 wash and you can iron over it. Remember I am talking about personalized t-shirt having some art work (not photograph, not simple text). A pure screen printing site where you can get text printed or existing screen printing. Send them a sketch or drawing and ask they can print and test how many washes it can hold.
    Conclusion
    ———-
    No. of t-shirt color: 10
Style: 1 (basic round neck for men, women and kid)
No online tool where you can design.
    Thats all??

    7) Read at http://www.myntra.com/mkproductstylegroups.php?pid=2
    Conclusion
    ———-
No. of t-shirt color: 4 (White, black, grey, blue)
    Style: 9
    T-shirt is core competency.
Rs. 99/- t-shirt is not a personalized t-shirt (Your blog says you are comparing personalized t-shirt)

    8) Read at http://pringoo.com/newcolors
    Conclusion
    ———-
No. of t-shirt color: 12 (White, black, grey, navy blue, beige, yellow, dark green, bright green, orange, red, yellow, pink)
    Style: 9
    T-shirt is core competency.
Starting price Rs 374 not Rs 399 that includes free shipping and tax.

Now I leave final conclusion on you πŸ™‚

Did you talk about 100% ‘catch-free’ money back guarantee (no question asked). It is very important to note that personalized item can not be sold again. Is there any company who has so much believe in their product quality and service that they can offer such a risky return policy, where no question asked?

I am not sure how did you know about customer care promptness of pringOO πŸ™‚

FYI, we are only and single company in India using eco-solvent digital printing that is 24 times expensive than sublimation printing what you found all photo printing sites are using and sublimation can not print on cotton. This technology is merely 12 month old in International market and pringOO has only that capability. It can print highest 1440 dpi and gives better washability and you can iron over it. It can print on any color fabric. While sublimation can print only on white and that should be polyester only :). Even having expensive technology that gives un-matchable quality printing, our prices are similar to other sites. We have kept our margin relatively low.

    Best regards,
    ——————————————–

  • 13 Priyanka // Oct 7, 2008 at 3:26 pm

I am a little surprised by Jai’s comment. I don’t think that the post above is about “best personalized t-shirt store”
It is about designing your own t-shirts and the options available.
If you have some great graphics you want on a tee, you can submit it on inkfruit and if it gets a lot of votes, it could win and the tee gets printed and you get cash and the tee for free πŸ™‚

  • 14 Jai // Oct 7, 2008 at 6:03 pm

    Priyanka,

I think Kunal can give answer of this question as what this blog post is about.
I read the blog post heading says
    “Design your own Personalised Tshirt!”.

John wants a t-shirt to gift his son on his birthday with his photo and his name and some quotation, so does it mean he has to go and win a design contest and then only he can get it? Similar situation, I have a family gathering and I want personalized t-shirt for my all family members, so again do I need to go and win a contest to get 10 such t-shirts printed. And probably those designs will be relevant to my family members only.

This may help as what ‘Personalized’ means
    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/personalized

    Over to Kunal πŸ™‚

  • 15 Reeteshinator // Oct 7, 2008 at 7:09 pm

Haha, just the effort that Jai has taken, makes me want to choose pringoo blindly πŸ˜›

I wonder if the other CTOs have something to say..

  • 16 Jai // Oct 7, 2008 at 7:59 pm

    Reetesh,

The big post which u saw above is not really posted by me.

That was my personal e-mail to Kunal as he wanted me to share my ideas about this post. So I sent him mail rather than posting it in this blog.

And yes, I also mentioned in my email, if Kunal wishes, he can put some facts from my e-mail in his blog.

  • 17 Manan // Oct 7, 2008 at 9:58 pm

Woh ho! I will go to the mall around the corner and get my image printed on my T-Shirt. πŸ˜‰

  • 18 Gaurav // Oct 8, 2008 at 1:20 am

    Kunal,

I personally have used itasveer in the past for getting custom Tshirts and printed in India. My experience with them was not a ‘wow’, but neither was disappointing. I have also used them for sending printed pictures a couple of times, the delivery timings are good as per Indian standards. I’ll keep using itasveer for Mugs, etc. just because I have an account setup with them.

  • 19 Nishit Shah // Oct 8, 2008 at 7:24 am

Had got a call from Jai Kumar from PringOO today regarding my comment. He was ready to give full refund for the T-Shirt that I had bought from them, even though its been more than 6 months since I have been using it. He also asked me to send the tee back so that they can analyze wot went wrong. Impressive. Their print is awesome no questions about it. Never knew it could be ironed. Had been taking care of it while doin it till now πŸ™‚

  • 20 Kunal // Oct 8, 2008 at 3:08 pm

I started off looking for an online custom t-shirt printing website since I wanted to get one. I asked some of my friends opinion and they gave various names which included inkfruit… I went to all the sites to check if they offer what I want and then I thought of actually posting the various players.

Inkfruit definitely cannot classify into get-a-custom-print-tshirt but then it seems to do the business of printing tshirts which is why it features with other players. I am not sure why they would not start custom t-shirts immediately since they already have the mechanics in place…

I have been impressed with Pringoo and the length to which the founder/cto goes to listen to it’s customers and take action on it. The reason i posted Jai’s email was it had some very valid points which i would want the readers of this post to know before they make their decision…

I have written to all the players featured and this is like an open forum for them to come and post their views…

    Cheers

Hi thanks for the info but can i give my pictures and stuff to be printed on the tshirt can i go thru the various designs available seems a bit pricy though..

  • 22 Ravi Kumar [DilSeBol] // Oct 11, 2008 at 8:24 pm

Also, I went through ur blog and I noticed this really long comment from Jai – if length of the response is the basis to judge veracity, then Jai wins hands down but what he has said about us is simply not true. It would have been nice if you had verified his comments before posting. Just to clarify, we offer 5 colors in basic tees for men, 7 colors for women and other than basic tees we also offer the following:

    Collar tees (4 colors)
Raglan tees – 2 color combos (red & black and blue & white)
Full sleeve tees – 2 color combos (red & black and blue & white)
Ringer tees – 3 color combos (red & black and blue & white and black & grey)

Formal shirts – full sleeves and half sleeves
Kids t-shirt – round neck and collar

This is more than any of the others are offering – as can be expected, Jai has done a half baked job of checking and has posted a false claim about us. This brings me to the larger question – shouldn’t Jai stick to talking about his own stuff and not comment about others when he doesn’t have facts with him?

One more thing that I would like to point out is that, even though printing may be great, if it is printed on a poor quality t-shirt, it comes to naught. Users will have to bear this in mind and not get fooled by claims like “free shipping” etc when they buy t-shirts.

Finally, there are multiple technologies available for printing and each one is the best under different circumstances, for different products. Claiming one to be the best is again dubious. At DilSeBol, we use one of 3 types of printing, based on our assessment of what will give the best results for the users.

  • 23 Jai // Oct 13, 2008 at 11:16 am

Ravi, Hope you are doing good. I guess you did not read my comment carefully. You may see my comment ends with “thats all??” That means I am asking do you have more; rather than making a statement. I understood this forum is about T-shirts not about formals.

Regarding your claim that our t-shirt quality is poor, may I know how did you draw that conclusion? You may tell me, it’s because Nishit’s comment. It is unfortunate that particular piece of t-shirt may have some problem. As we never had any customer having such a complain. Even when BMW manufactures car, there may be chance that one piece may have some problem in a lot of 1000. Question is how any company handles such situation, that is more important. We have a transparent, “catch-free” 100% money back guarantee. That build trust in customer when they buy something from us. Take an example of Nishit’s case. We offered him 100% money back even after 6 months. And we asked him to send back that piece of t-shirt for investigation. Ask Nishit why is he still recommending everyone to buy stuff from pringOO? pringOO offers many customer-friendly attributes in the services. Such as “Free shipping & no tax” this is because we are here to build the brand with the best service and quality while keeping our margin low and pass benefits to customer.

Finally about multiple printing technologies, we have capability of 5 different printing technologies :). And we know very well which one is the best. There may be cases, where you can save huge money by using different technologies that may yield poor quality and customer may not be able to find it out. So we do not believe in making customer fool by doing that. We believe in using THE BEST AVAILABLE TECHNOLOGY for printing that’s why we are the first and only company in India having that capability, even we had to invest a huge chunk of money for it. But as per our policy we can not compromise on quality so we had to invest so much.

Ravi, how you win your customer and make them 100% satisfied in such situation is the key of success. Be supportive to the customer to build trust and offer “catch-free” money back guarantee. (You owe me a lunch now, I told you one of our successful business secret hahaah)

I need to get about 400 custom t-shirts printed, and I was wondering whether it would be any less expensive if I were to order them from India, versus buying and printing them back here in the States.
